Love it or loathe it, series four of Love Island has pushed Mallorca into the national consciousness and up the rankings of our favourite holiday hotspots. Following the show’s success last year, UK tourists visiting the Balearic island jumped a whopping 23% — making Mallorca the second most popular holiday destination for Brits. So, with the eyes of the nation glued to this year’s escapades, it seems a good moment to share our favourite Mallorca hideaways.
The Villa
Mallorca’s country villas don’t come much better than Pollensa Bay. Unlike our loved-up TV contestants you can escape to explore the local beaches and towns, but you might not want to: the villa comes with a gorgeous pool, 3 acres of orchards and a movie room all to yourself. The romantic one
Mallorca’s capital is great for a romantic city break. High-end Nakar Hotel is notable as much for its buzzy location as its sharp design and hip urban vibe. The terrace features one of the city’s few rooftop pools, with amazing vistas over the terracotta rooftops towards a shimmering strip of the Mediterranean Sea on the horizon. While the Love Island housemates make do with a night in the villa’s hideaway, couples heading to Nakar Hotel should plump for one of the Deluxe Rooms which have private decked terraces and big bubbly hot tubs for alfresco soaks á deux.

The seaside one
A vibrant and stylish hotel in Mallorca’s most scenic seaside town, Esplendido Hotel occupies prime position in the middle of a horseshoe bay. Many of the hotel’s bright and airy rooms look out to sea and, best of all, most have terraces with stunning views across the bay. In fact, you’re so close to the shoreline that you can hear the waves lapping below. We loved the heated outdoor pool floating above the hotel which boasts yet more stunning sea views. Bliss.

The trendy one
Long overlooked, Palma is now very much a hot destination in its own right. If you’re coming to experience the city at its trendiest Purohotel Palma is the place to see and be seen. The location, in the heart of old Palma, is fantastic for exploring by day but it’s after nightfall when this uber-cool hotel really comes to life. DJs play the buzzing bar several nights a week to a young, energetic crowd sipping on excellent cocktails.

The scenic one
Mallorca has much more to offer than beautiful people (be they Love Island wannabes or Purohotel partygoers), the scenery is equally gorgeous. Son Viscos is a wonderful spot for enjoying the Tramuntana mountains, with awesome views and enchanting gardens cleaved from the valley. There’s great hiking and biking nearby; ask manager Michael for his mountain walk recommendations – he’ll advise a route for every rambler.

The lavish one
Font Santa Hotel is, quite simply, an awesome luxury hotel. There’s a glamorous pool where staff bring you complimentary granitas, some private Jacuzzi areas with double daybeds, and the most amazing thermal spa imaginable. The food is superb – imaginative, delicious and well-priced. If any Love Island hopefuls do find ‘The One’, this adults-only hotel would make a wonderful place for a honeymoon.

The family one
This relaxed Scandi-meets-Med style hotel on the edge of Palma is great for children of all ages. Portixol is right by the beach with plenty of family-friendly attractions nearby, plus babysitting, monitors and baby equipment. There’s a lively bar serving cocktails and snack for the parents, and an even better restaurant (where you’ll find kids’ menus, small portions and early dinners). Children love the pool and lounge area, though the hotel is by no means overrun with little ones. If anything, the atmosphere here is one of calm ambiance.

The neighbourly one
While the actual Love Island villa is located outside the sleepy town of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, near Mallorca’s east coast, just 10km away is the chic, serene and utterly charming Son Gener. There’s no water fights or late-night pools parties here; the order of the day is peace and tranquillity. This 18th-century finca boasts 15 elegant suites, a small but stylish spa, beautiful organic gardens and delightful indoor and outdoor pools. Explore the historic towns nearby, then visit the stunning beaches: you might even catch sight of some Love Island couples canoodling for the cameras!
