Day 2

“Did you know: Vietnam is cited by The Travel Magazine as a country with a unique coffee culture, and included in CNN Traveler’s list of the best coffee destinations in the world”.
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- 08:30 Meet up with your guide at the hotel’s lobby for coffee tour of Saigon.
- Start with a stroll through a buzzing local residential area and delve right into local life while browsing the street café scene, watching people enjoying their morning coffee and reading news or chatting with each other.
- Locals usually drink coffee after having breakfast, so get ready to try out ‘bun thit nuong’ – a dish consisting of cool fresh noodles and warm grilled pork like the locals do.
- Walk around to observe the bustling street eats scene and you might want to try a piece of sticky rice or local donuts.
- Carry on to discover an 80-year-old coffee shop which boils its water in a clay pot and filters the coffee through a net in a very unique style.
- For the first taste, try Bạc Xỉu Đá, which is a Vietnamese take on a latte, while listening to the coffee tales.
- Delve into the city’s oldest colonial-era apartment, and see what the young creative Vietnamese are up to from their funky boutiques to cafés.
- Conclude the tour by heading to Barista Saigon coffee studio, where you will meet with a certified barista to get an introduction to Vietnamese specialty coffee and learn expert coffee brewing techniques. Choose from a variety of courses, focusing on espresso, latte art or professional ways to judge the quality of coffee.
- 14:00 Meet up with your guide at the hotel’s lobby for a city tour.
- Despite its modernity, Saigon (or Ho Chi Minh City) – with over eight million inhabitants and four million motorbikes – maintains a strong link to the past. Our city tour takes in some of Saigon’s most historic landmarks.
- Notre Dame Cathedral, a red brick edifice with twin spires constructed from materials imported from France (entrance is only permitted when no services are being performed).
- Then head across the square to the Central Post Office, completed in 1891. A short drive away is the former Presidential Palace, the headquarters of the Saigon Government during the American War.
- If you wish, you may opt to visit War Remnants Museum for a vivid perspective of the American War through the eyes of the Vietnamese. (Please note that some of the displays are very graphic.).
- The final stop is to delve into the intriguing tale of the Weapons Bunker of Saigon Commandos attack on the Independence Palace during Tet Offensive of 1968, concealing an array of weaponry, including trap doors, bazookas, guns, and grenades that remained undiscovered by South Vietnam’s army.
NOTES
